Rose is three, wow! I thought she was older because she is so confident.
She is very confident! We had another yellow lab before, any time we'd say 'do you want to go out?' or things like that, he had such excitement and facial expression. Not Rose--she is sure that if she sits and waits nicely, she'll get the treat or the walk.
Confident and smart! Great. What’s something Rose loves to do--other than camp!
She loves going to the park, I think she sees it as an extension of camp--lots of other dogs to play with. She always knows when we’re going there, I don’t know how.
And how long has she been coming here?
She’s been coming since she was a puppy! We started as soon as she was 8 weeks. We took our puppy classes here. She’s in the commercial actually, as a puppy, its adorable.
What’s your favorite thing about camp, and what do you think hers is?
I”m glad she’s able to come and play with dogs all week, she loves coming here, she loves you guys. Shes so comfortable here because shes been coming for so long. Theres a lot to say about it. Probably actually swimming, I’ve heard she loves the pool.
She loves the pool. She and Leo, a golden, played together in the pool all summer.
We have a pool at home and she’s not supposed to come in, but every once and a while we’ll be out reading on the deck and we’ll hear a splash and see her wading in. It’s funny, our son’s dog Trot will just launch into the pool but Rose is very dainty about it.
One thing that makes us laugh is that unlike most dogs, Rose will walk between our legs to get where she’s going--does she do that at home?
Oh yes! She definitely does.
Any favorite Rose stories?
Well being a retriever she loves to bring you things--my husband has so many mismatched socks because she goes and digs through the laundry for them. She won’t take anything else, just his or my socks, and brings them to us in the morning. Its funny too, she has a horrific sounding bark when anyone arrives at the house, but before she barks she goes to get a toy or a sock to bring whoever is visiting and then she barks horrifyingly.
Oh! And Trot, my son’s dog, we’ll throw a ball at the beach and he’ll swim forever to go get it. But Rose won’t, she’ll wait by the shore and only when Trot gets in close to the beach, she goes in and grabs the ball away from him and runs away--she has him do the work!
Like I said, confident and smart! What to you is the best part of having a dog?
Oh, you know--always having someone who loves you unconditionally. They take you when your happy or sad, she’s always there, she’s the best.
She is! Well thank you so much for sharing your stories with me.
