Shumai is a beautiful boy who makes me laugh every day! He has such a comedic sense of humor! He is smart, playful and has a great future ahead of him.
Where did I get his name? Well, shumai is an appetizer available at Japanese restaurants. I’m a huge sushi fan and so although shumai isn’t sushi, it’s close. I just think it has a nice ring to it and he seems to like the name too. It’s humorous to us that Shumai is a German breed of dog whose bloodlines are Russian and Italian and he has a Japanese name!
Shumai is very active, and just as all puppies are different, he has taught me even more lessons on bringing up a dog.
Shumai’s big challenge as a puppy was CRATE TRAINING! Even though I started him in the crate at 7 weeks old, he really struggled for MONTHS! He still can sometimes throw a little fit about it, but he has come so far! Talk about having to “hang in there”! He was tough!
Shumai has started his training for agility and Rally O. He’s so much fun!
On July 4, 2008, Shumai finished is Rally Novice title. At the Thanksgiving Cluster in 2008, Shumai earned his Rally Advanced title. We also started showing in agility at CPE events and he has moved up to Level 3 Jumpers in Enthusiast jumping 20". Now we are starting over again in Level 1, doing all classes at in the Regular class and he is jumping 24". He is doing very well.
At the time of this update (March 2009), Shumai is 23 months old. To read more recent news on Shumai's competitions, please go to his agility/rally o page.
