  • Walking your dog and the tools that help make that happen
  • Your relationship with your dog

After re-introducing you to what exercises you learned the previous week, we begin to get into the “control” aspects of dog training like teaching “stay” and “leave-it”. We show you how to start teaching your dog not to pull on leash and how to keep him from jumping on people. We also discuss humane dog training tools that help IMMEDIATELY with a dog that pulls on a leash. Also, what can you do to improve the relationship between you and your dog?

We teach you how to start fading the use of food to lure behaviors and how to get your dog to stay through distractions. We work more on the Leave-it command and we talk about how to get your dog to come when called EVERYTIME you call him. There is also a feature showing you how to work through a “down-stay” exercise effectively. This exercise is shown with a three and a half month old puppy!

Teaching the Stay and the Leave-it are only effective if you keep proofing the skill. We also put some of the exercises together to further proof their reliability with your dog.

Week #5

  • Introduction to Week #5
  • Advanced attention exercises
  • Instant down
  • Go to your bed
  • Final Discussion

In this last week of dog training, you and your dog have gotten a lot of training practice together. We then teach you how to advance those attention exercises to your dog, how to teach your dog to “go to his bed” when told, and we also teach you how get your dog to lie down using a verbal command only. By this time your dog will have had a lot of training and so you are just raising the criteria on some of the commands he has learned in previous weeks.
